Onion Rings in the Shower

Today we lucked out and there was a cancellation at the El Tovar so we were able to re-check in. After we went to a talk on condors (super interesting) and a kids’ program, we settled into our room. This one has a king bed and rollaway cot.

The room is located right at the end of the building in a great location. You can see the porch outside where Bill took a little nap on the rocking chairs. The kids could go out and play and we could see them from the room.

It must also be near the kitchen. The shower has two large casement windows that we opened to let the steam out. Usually when I am in the shower I only smell soap and shampoo and other good smells. Today the small of onion rings came wafting in. This may not seem that strange, but think about it. It was so unusual. It almost made me feel unbalanced in a way. Like something was not right in the world.

That’s what happens when we are so used to things being a certain way that we take them for granted. From now on I will appreciate my scent free showers.
